HIT SHOW drops you into a jazz-fueled fever dream where the spotlight burns and the truth keeps slipping out of reach. A swanky, noir-flavored musical inspired by the 1963 kidnapping of Frank Sinatra Jr. and set against the stirrings of the queer liberation movement, it unfolds like a smoky floor show with a dangerous edge. The lights are low, the martinis are cold, and the night is closing in. Sexy, volatile, and darkly funny, HIT SHOW is a high-gloss hallucination of fame at its most intoxicating and corrosive—a world of flashbulbs, backrooms, and buried secrets where image is currency and identity is a risk. Featuring a cast of four, this world premiere musical blurs performance and confession into an electrifying, late-night experience that lingers long after the music stops.

HIT SHOW is a joint world premiere from Southern Plains Productions in Oklahoma City and The Carnegie.

Billy is an award-winning, Billboard-charting composer/lyricist, playwright, music director and teaching artist who believes in the transformative power of musical comedy. He actively aims to queer the canon with musicals that center fringe moments and characters from pop culture history.

One of the most prolific young musical theatre writers of his generation, Billy’s career began with the award-winning and internationally headline-making Balloon Boy: The Musical, for which he became the youngest writer ever selected for the New York Musical Theatre Festival at age 17. The show has since been produced across the country and is available for licensing.

Off-Broadway and NYC credits includeFowl Play (Book, Music, and Lyrics; directed by Olivier Award winner Tye Blue; co-book by Yoni Weiss); four simultaneously running musicals in the 2023–2024 season, including FIVE: The Parody Musical (Music and Lyrics; Theatre 555, “ABC Nightline” and NY Times Feature); A Musical About Star Wars (Music and Lyrics; AMT Theatre/St. Luke’s/Theatre Row); Singfeld (Music and Orchestrations; Jerry Orbach Theatre); Balloon Boy: The Musical (Book, Music, and Lyrics; International Thespian Festival); VAPE (Lyrics and Book, with Danny Salles; Town Hall, directed by Jack Plotnick); Petunia’s Big Day (Music and Lyrics; New Ohio Theatre, NY Times Feature); and Hear/Now (Composer; Keen Company).

His Heidi Fleiss musical, Little Black Book (Book, Music, and Lyrics; all-star concept album available everywhere), is currently slated for production. Most recently, Tony Award nominee Orfeh starred in its concert premiere at the Bowery Ballroom, directed by Tony nominee Kristin Hanggi.

Licensed titles includeThe Big Twist: A Musical OzVenture (Music) and 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse: The Musical (Music and Lyrics), based on one of the most produced plays in America by Don Zolidis. Both are licensed by Broadway Licensing/Concord.

Billy’s work has been performed by Bernadette Peters, Mandy Patinkin, Laura Benanti, Tituss Burgess, Alice Ripley, Beth Leavel, Bonnie Milligan, Leslie Kritzer, Kerry Butler, Orfeh, Rachel Dratch, Jackie Hoffman, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Rosé, Paige Turner, Jackie Cox, Alexis Michelle, Nathan Lee Graham, Lesli Margherita, Mandy Gonzalez, Jessica Vosk, Ramin Karimloo, Kevin Chamberlain and many more.

Film and TV credits include songs for RuPaul’s Drag Race and Canada’s Drag Race: All Stars, The Birds and the BS with Jordan Roth (Songwriter) and BroadwayWorld’s Rachel Unraveled (Head Writer/Songwriter).

His songs have been heard internationally and at venues including The New Amsterdam, Broadway in Bryant Park, Cadogan Hall, Tilles Center, Lincoln Center, The (pre-Trump) Kennedy Center, Ars Nova, Irish Rep, The York Theatre, The Signature Theatre, 54 Below, The Green Room 42 and more. He has developed musicals and projects with Goodspeed Musicals, Barrington Stage, the Edinburgh Fringe, and the Boston Gay Men’s Choir.

Billy is a two-time MAC Award winner, an Orchard Project Greenhouse member, a Relentless Award semi-finalist, a Eugene O’Neill Finalist, a NAMT Finalist, a Bushwick Starr Grant Awardee, a two-time Wallowitch Award finalist, and a Jonathan Larson Grant finalist. He is currently under commission with the EST/Sloan Project, USDAN, Benson Drive Productions, Barrington Stage, Broadway Licensing/Concord, and several production companies.

Billy is based in New York City and is a member of ASCAP.
