Price, Ph.D., is a cultural anthropologist with several publications to her credit about the political process, race, music and culture. She served as Assistant Professor at North Carolina A&T State University among other universities over the years and has visited at least 20 countries in the Americas, Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Europe in a quest to learn more about African Diaspora Cultures.
Musical Past: According to her mother, Tanya started playing pots and pans at the tender age of two. By age 13, she was playing the snare drum and later, a full drum set. At Miami University-Ohio and Indiana University, Bloomington she played with percussion ensembles and gospel choirs along with various marching, symphonic, jazz and reggae bands. While teaching at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, she was a founding member of Djembe Kaan, an African Percussion Ensemble that performed extensively in Kansas and Missouri.
In St. Louis, she took her first workshop with Mamady Keïta, the recently deceased Guinean Grandmaster of the djembe (West African) drum, pioneer of the National Guinea Ballet and subject of the popular 1991 documentary, Djembefola. Under Keïta’s tutelage, she learned traditional rhythms of the Mandingue people, performing before the great Famoudou Konaté, National Ballet Djoliba. She would also perform before the community of Matoto, drumming before thousands at the Abéné, Senegal Cultural Festival and the National Theater in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Upon returning to Cincinnati in 2016, Tanya joined the Rhythm Sisters with “Suits” member Shari Lauter, continues to perform, accompanies African dance classes and teaches African Drum workshops for the Hive Center for Contemplation and Political Action in Cincinnati. She also offers djembe classes and workshops for children and adults. Tanya is thrilled to join the “Suits that Rock!”

She has been a banker for over 25 years, previously holding roles at Nova Scotia and Royal Bank of Canada. She is a native of Jamaica, but moved to Cincinnati in August 2021 to help bring JPMorgan Chase’s set of premium commercial banking solutions to companies in the region.

She spent numerous hours as a child listening and singing to artists like Enya, Yani, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson. She was a bit too shy to perform publicly but would always sing to herself. Her friends and family constantly pushed her to share her voice and when she became a young adult, she joined the Northern Caribbean University Concert Choir in an aim to perfect her art. She would also sing at weddings, work events and funerals. Her musical love was further cemented when she met her husband, a singer, songwriter and producer.
